This funding added to a A$5 million grant provided to the company by the Victorian Government, completing the funding for the project. With the funding in place, BioPower Systems is now focussing all efforts on delivering the Port Fairy Pilot Wave Energy Project, which aims to install and demonstrate a 250kW bioWAVE ocean wave energy system at a grid-connected site on the southern coast of Australia. Project Activities The power conversion module for the project, called O-Drive, has completed factory testing and is now logging hours during extended "endurance" dry-runs. All design, including the bioWAVE structure, foundation, and mechanical/electrical systems, is due to be completed in November 2012. We anticipate commencing fabrication of the structure before the end of 2012. The construction, fit-out, testing of all project items (including cabling and onshore works) will occupy most of the next 12 months. The ocean deployment of the bioWAVE is currently scheduled to occur late in 2013. Permitting for the project, including all environmental and planning permits, is now nearing completion. We anticipate that all permits will be in place by the end of 2012. The company is committed to keeping the public and local stakeholders well-informed about project activities. We aim to be accessible and responsive. All enquiries about the project are welcome. For contact details, please visit: www.biopowersystems.com. After the 250kW bioWAVE pilot is installed, it will undergo testing and demonstration for a period of 21 months. The operation and performance of the system will be independently validated. Business Development News BioPower Systems is aiming to advance past the pilot stage rapidly, and to develop and trial a commercial-scale 1MW bioWAVE as soon as possible after the pilot validation. Beyond this, the company aims to support development of commercial-scale wave farms, with increasing scale. In order to reach the scale necessary to achieve sufficient economies of scale to allow for competitive electricity production, BioPower Systems is actively building capacity through establishing strategic alliances. Recently, BioPower Systems formed an alliance with the Shanghai Electric Co. - one of the largest diversified industrial manufacturing companies in China.
